3-d technology is growing at a rapid pace, so much so, that seemingly impossible things are becoming a reality of today. Whether it is about reconstructing a prosthetic nose in an accident victim or using latest 3-d scanning technology involving heat to replicate specular and transparent objects, the possibilities are amazing and limitless.

3-d printing the new rage

This is not science fiction but a reality made possible with 3-d printers. Modern 3-d printing technology has become so advanced yet affordable that now, it is possible for even small businesses to generate prototype models and life like models to test feasibility in the market. What’s more, these models are made of fine-grade plastic, which can be sculpted, cut or even painted to provide an entirely new look.

3-d scanning and latest trends

What is amazing is that with 3-d scanning technology, you could even transform real world objects into 3-d computer models.

3-d modeling as an art

3-d modeling is an art form because you are essentially creating a framework for a new object from scratch. Most animation and computer graphics teams use 3-d modeling software on a consistent basis. You could either choose to use manual or automated 3-d modeling technology to create life like objects replicating real world items. Using such a technology, specific space points are marked with lines, rectangles, triangles etc. to create a support or framework for the finished model. These 3-d models can further be represented either through solid formats or through boundaries or shells. In the case of solid 3-d models, the entire object is seen just like the real life object. In the case of shell 3-d models, only the outer casing or shell is seen.

The future

What are the two steps of making a PCB/printed circuit board?

I mean the two first steps?

first you have to lay the board out using some sort of software (this used to be done by hand using black tape and acetone sheets).

next a photochemical resist is applied to the bare copper board and the PCB pattern is exposed onto the board.

Next the board is etched using acid to remove those areas of copper not wanted.

After, there are drilling, plating, routing, solder mask, silkscreen. Plus lamination if more than 2 layers.

Testing a Zener Diode in a Solid State Pinball Machine?

I was testing a voltage in a Bally Pinball Machine at on the voltage/solenoid board and accidentally touched a zener diode and it sparked off. I took out my multi-meter (mm) and set it to the diode tester. I wanted to see if I fried the zener diode. With the power to the machine "off" I placed the mm probe on both sides of the zener diode. One way it read .0000 the other way it read 1.549. Is this a legit way of testing the diode to see whether I fried it or not. If so, based on what I got am I "ok" or did I fry it? Anyone knowing the Bally Solenoid board I was checking TP4 and accidentally touched VR1 zener diode. BTW, what does the VR1 control? Any help appreciated. Thanks!
BTW, The Solenoid/Driver board is a Bally AS-2518-16.

I think the zener diode is ok as it only passes excess voltage usually to ground so components will not fry.It could be when you made the arc a transister or some other component may have fried and am not sure though that ,that happened.

Do they sell such PCB cards?

I am only asking as a novice. I haven't much idea what I am looking for.

Do they sell a PCB card with a socket that allows you to insert a chip in it for you to use your chip? After that, you insert the card into the PCI slot in your PC to use the chip?

For example, if you have burnt a program in a chip, can you just take the chip and insert it into the PCB card and use it? The card will be inserted in the PCI card slot first.

Do such boards exist?

Sorry if my question sounds ridiculous. I have no idea what I am really asking.

If you are speaking of onboard memory, most manufacturers hard wire their memory chips onto the board, if they let consumers add additional memory to those cards, they would not be able to sell you an upgrade a couple of years later when they came out with new models, thus severely limiting their profits

How do I fix a broken circuit board contact?

I have a Gameboy Advance game that has a broken contact. (It is one of the contacts that you can see without opening the game up.) It broke in half, apparently, and I would hate to see those hundreds of hours I poured into the game, lost. (Pokemon is addictive.) Does anyone know how to fix such a thing?

I'll try to get pictures later on today if anyone requests them.

About the only way to repair a broken piece of a pc board is to clean the edges of the board and then glue them together using any one of several glues on the market for that purpose and then you have to repair the crack in the printed circuit with an appropriate solder bridge. That generally takes someone that has experience in making that kind of repair as the soldering process can destroy the copper trace if not done right.
